Toyota’s nearly-there solid-state batteries promise EV ranges of 800 miles and more. However, those will only be available to us around 2030, so if you still experience electric vehicle range anxiety, here’s a look at a handful of EVs that offer 400 miles and beyond.
Go back ten years. Range anxiety is the fear of running out of battery power before you get there, and it’s easy to see where that comes from. In 2014, the median range of EVs was 84 miles. There were fewer than 10,000 public charging stations in the US at the time, and it would have taken several hours to recharge. In 2024, the median range was 284 miles, with nearly 70,000 charging stations, and some EVs can recharge in 15 minutes or less.
Today, 250-mile to just over 300-mile range is considered adequate for most drivers, but if you are a serial road-tripper planning to spend seven-and-a-half hours at the wheel, here are the 400-mile-plus options available in the US right now.
The range and MPG figures are drawn from the EPA estimates for 2025. There will be more extreme long-range cars coming soon, with Tesla’s 410-mile Model S Plaid, Lucid’s Gravity, and Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi in the mix.

Rivian R1S Performance Dual Max
Range: 410 miles
The Rivian R1S is a large, three-row, seven-seat electric SUV. The Dual stands for two motors, while the Max refers to the optional large battery, where the range comes from. This SUV is AWD, has 665 hp, and can do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. That’s more power and faster acceleration than a Porsche 911 Carrera.
There’s also a more powerful tri-motor with slightly less range, and a quad motor with 1,025 hp and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. The range of the quad has not yet been confirmed, but who cares?
The R1S is a practical SUV with real off-road capabilities. It has a premium interior, although not as luxurious as a top Beemer or Merc SUV.

Rivian R1T Performance Dual Max
Range: 420 miles
The Rivain R1T is a full-size pickup truck with a five-seat double cab and a loadbed to match this configuration. It has the same motor and battery options as the R1S, but with 10 miles longer range because it weighs slightly less.
The R1T is also equally at home on the dirt and the highway, and because of its exceptional range, can do duty as a workhorse pickup or a lifestyle truck. The interior is practical premium, which means it’s nice inside, but you won’t mind if it gets a bit dirty.

Like the R1S, the T has great features like wireless charging, a lockable central console, and power outlets for work or camping. The R1T used to dominate the EV pickup space, but has found solid competition in the Chevrolet Silverado in range, and the Ford F-150 Lightning in overall capability.

Chevrolet Silverado RST Max Range
Range: 460 miles
The Chevrolet Silverado is a perennial top-ten bestseller, and its EV range brings all the cost and performance benefits of battery power without much compromise in practical capabilities.
As a full-size twin-cab, five-seat EV pickup, this Silverado can tow 12,500 lbs, has 760 hp, and reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. It can charge 100 miles in 10 minutes, so your working day can be as long as you like. There used to be a Silverado EV 8WT that’s still listed on the EPA website that could do 492 miles on a charge, but this it’s not listed on the Chevrolet website at the moment.
The Silverado comes in a range of trim levels, from basic utility to fully loaded, as seen in the extreme range version in question here. A glass roof, a 17-inch infotainment screen, leather seats, and comprehensive driver assistance are all standard features.
It’s important to note that you can go a long distance on a charge or you tow a heavy load, but you can’t do both at the same time. Pulling a load drops the range dramatically.

Like all power trains, EVs have their strengths and weaknesses, and you should consider those before you buy. That said, the Chevrolet RST Max Range is a real working truck with the tailgate length adjustable by opening the panel behind the rear seats and folding the seat flat like an SUV, and opening the tailgate.

Lucid Air 2025 Air G Touring XR AWD with 19 inch wheels
Range: 512 miles
The Lucid Air is a large, spacious, luxury sedan that can seat five, but is designed for four. This car deals in superlatives, in range, power, and luxury. All four trim levels exceed 400 miles, with the Grand Touring gliding past an impressive 500 miles.
Unlike the other cars on this list, the Lucid Air is firmly rooted in the realm of paved roads and tarmac highways. It comes standard with AWD, leather everywhere, features like a folding second touchscreen, voice recognition that responds to normal speech and remembers the speaker’s preferences in aspects like climate control.

One of the reasons the Lucid Air has such a long range is its incredible drag coefficient of only 1.97. Another is its very large battery. The Lucid Air Grand Touring lives in the same luxury space as the Merc EQS and performance spectrum as the Tesla Model S Plaid. Ironically, there’s a trim level above the Grand Touring called the Sapphire, starting at $230,000 that’s capable of 0-60 in under two seconds.
EV range costs money, and that is why many EVs shoot for a range of around 300 miles today. At the same time, EV battery prices are coming down, while battery performance is going up. So watch this space.
